In Oct we will rent a car for 2 nights from Ljubljana to head to Kobarid, then returning back to Ljubljana for one night before flying home. We will stay in/near the historic old town and train station looks closer to pick up and drop off the car rather than the airport, but don't know how easy it is to drive there? Appreciate any experience with either location, thanks!
Oh, and I'm seeing very high refundable deposits, is that typical?
We rented from a central location in Ljubljana in 2019. Driving in and out was not hard at all. It wasn't at the train station. But we walked from our hotel just south of the river. I think it was the Budget or Hertz in a hotel at this address: Trdinova ulica 9, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia. But we booked through AutoEurope.com.
No problem driving near train station. Just normal fairly calm streets. Have a great trip!

I am an anxious overseas driver. I dropped off a Hertz car in the city in Ljubljana. I watched videos of Ljubljana traffic and look at my route on Google Maps at street level before the trip. My worry was unfounded. It was very easy to drive in Ljubljana.
Last year picked up our rental car at the Sixt agency right by Ljubljana’s train station. It’s less than one-half mile east of the train station.
Driving in Ljubljana and Slovenia is quite easy.
Thanks for the additional heads up that renting from the train station the drive should be fine. I've not been able to work the Google Maps street level very well, someday need to figure that out.
