We are renting a car in mid September for a day trip to Lorgaska Dolina. We want to drive the Panoramic Road, and read that some of it is not paved. We were thinking of renting an electric compact car, but not sure if we need a small SUV instead. Anyone has experience renting an electric car in Slovenia? How common are charging stations along this route? Taking the A1 expressway, then road 225 along the Savinja river, then road 428 to Solcava. Not sure about the gradient on these roads...should we rent an automatic car instead of manual?

A compact will be fine on the Panoramic Road. It's narrow and winding with some gravel stretches, but it's not rough 4x4 terrain, ordinary rental cars handle it every summer. I'd actually steer away from an EV for that specific drive though: charging infrastructure in the Solčava/Logarska Dolina valley is thin, and it's not where you want to be watching your remaining range on switchbacks. Automatic is fine grade-wise (this isn't Vršič-steep), but on narrow roads with blind curves and oncoming traffic, familiarity with the car matters more than transmission type.
