Postojna Cave vs Carlsbad, Mammoth, Wind Caves

Last year we visited Skocjan Cave and were blown away with how amazing it was. We are returning this year and will definitely revisit. The question is whether to visit Postojna. We have been to all the listed caves in the US plus Luray and others. All worth seeing but if Postojna is similar we think we won't go--if it is unique in some way like Skocjan than we want to go. We will be there in late April so hopefully before the crowds.

I haven't been to the US caves. I have been to both Postojna and Skocjan, but Postojna was so long ago I can't provide a comparison of the formations. What I do know is that Skocjan is considered a more natural cave. Postojna has some colored lights. Not only does Skocjan lack those (probably a good thing), the overall light level is rather low--a bit of an issue for me with my 64-year-old eyes at the time of my visit. Basically, all the formations seemed to be the same color to me, though the guide indicated there was some variation.

Postojna also has a little train-like contraption that takes you through part of the cave. That's probably appealing to children, and I imagine it means less walking inside the cave than at Skocjan.

I don't think there's as much walking needed to get from the ticket office to the Postojna caves, but there's not indication you found the situation at Skocjan a problem.

I feel as if one cave per trip would be enough for most visitors, especially considering how many things there are to do in Slovenia and northern Croatia. If this is a second extended visit in the area and you've seen a lot of the other top sights, I imagine you'd enjoy Postojna. You obviously like caves!
