Pls recommend your favorite hotel in Ljubljana

My husband and I will be there in late April, just the two of us. Would really appreciate your experienced recommendations. Thx!

We stayed at the charming Mescanka Apartment on the River for 2 nights. We loved the apartment, location and the restaurants along the river. Some friends recently stayed at Hotel Leser Angel. This is also by the river. They were very pleased with their stay. We ended our last 2 nights at Hotel Mrak. It was lovely, but we preferred the river location & old town.

Has anyone stayed in the City Hotel in Ljubljana? Those reviews also look great, [not in RS], and includes breakfast.

Does the Mescanka Apartments provide breakfast? This has been recommended by you all frequently.

Also, does a room with a view add to the experience here? Can't decide if the price is worth it.
[In my travels, some places it really does, as in Luzern.. and Murren.]

Thanks again.

Pat, Mescanka is a self catering apartment. There is a restaurant below the apartment and many more along the river. We stocked up on breakfast items at the nearby market. Found some wonderful local breads & fruits down by the open market. There is a Turkish coffee maker in the apartment. Highly recommend this accommodation. We booked our room 9 months in advance and were very pleased with the price. RS recommends this apartment. His staff has stayed there as well. You book Mescanka on Booking.com. Our hosts were very accommodating.

My wife and I loved Hotel Mrak (Pri Mraku, sometimes). Super friendly, pretty central to old town, and great breakfast.

We visited Slovenia for several weeks in the fall and LOVED it! Although I began the reservation process several months in advance, we ended up staying at two different hotels in Ljubljana and so I would encourage you to make reservations just as soon as you can.

Our first hotel was the Grand Hostel Union, which is divided into a new, conference-business section (think 1950s Vegas) and an older section - Rococo Vienna in the halls and 1950s communist in the rooms. We stayed in the older section - huge bathrooms, hard beds. But - the hotel is in a fabulous location, just a block from Preserem square, amidst restaurants galore. Breakfast had a lot of options but was served from steam trays - not a wow. Our second hotel, Hotel Cubo, was a find (although far more expensive). A boutique hotel, with a great bed, fabulous bathroom, helpful staff - and fantastic breakfast - a few blocks from the Grand but closer to Tivoli park and Museum of Contemporary History.

Wherever you stay, enjoy Slovenia!!

We also stayed at Hotel Cubo and loved it. Rooms were nice, great location, helpful, friendly staff. Also included a great breakfast buffet which included ordering off the menu and the minibar snacks were free - I don't ever remember having that before! It is a little more expensive, but I thought well worth it. and it still cost me less for 2 double rooms than for 1 double at the Boston Marriott or similar.

We rented an AirBnB place--a student apartment right in the middle of the old town. Worked great for this mid 50s couple.
