Places to visit in Ljubljana for 2 days

Dear Friends

I will be visiting Ljubljana for 2 days in the month of October.

Can you tell me the places which I must see / cover during my stay in Ljubljana. I am also intending purchase the Ljubljana Card. Will that be of any use? Or should I go for the City Pass instead.

PS: Museums don’t interest me, but I am a big fan of monuments and buildings.

Kind Regards

I haven't been yet myself, but it's on the top of my list for 2016.

In Rick's book, on pg. 584, he lists a few sights you might find of interest:

The Old Town's Riverside Market
Serbian Orthodox Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius
National and University Library
Jože Plečnik House
Dragon Bridge
Ljubljana Castle
Cobblers' Bridge

Enjoy your trip!

I just responded to your post about Lake Bled without seeing this post about you having already set aside some time in Ljubljana. We didn't get any of the cards/passes and we plenty of famous buildings and monuments for free - Plecnik's famous bridge and buildings, the fortress/castle, the dragon bridge. Definitely allow time for just strolling around the Old Town and walking the walkways along the river to wherever it takes you. There is a lovely Parisian cafe culture feel to the the areas around the river. During that walk, you're bound to see the market, the famous squares, and the three bridges.

We were in Ljubljana last month and loved it. As others have said, it is the perfect city for strolling, enjoying coffee and gelato at an outdoor cafe, and just discovering the charms of this small capital. We also did not purchase the Card or Pass, and didn't feel we needed them. All the sites mentioned in the previous posts are worth a visit, especially the National and University Library building designed by Joze Plecnik. Marvelous building for it's time period, and the Reading Room is magnificent. We are not big fans of Lake Bled, too touristy for our taste, but enjoyed Lake Bohing, the Mostnica Gorge, and hiking trails in that area. Slovenia is a wonderful country. Be sure to give it the time it deserves.
