Peeing in Slovenia

I’ll be traveling to Slovenia and Istria this spring and am somewhat worried about bathroom accessibility. I’m 71, in robust health but pee rather frequently. Any suggestions as to what I can expect? BTW, I was interested in a Rick Steves tour until I saw the bus transportation only stops every 2 hours (no toilets on the bus?).

General strategy is just never pass up the chance. If you need to go, head to a cafe, order a small drink, or your travel partner can, sit and relax and use their bathroom.

Not specific to Slovenia, but American fast food places are a go-to when you need to go, also Starbucks/Dunkin' type places. Always have coins handy in case you need to pay. Also museums and libraries, or you can pop into a café and buy something to use their WC - of course, this often keeps the cycle going so maybe buy food instead of liquids.

There is an app named 'flush' (with a toilet paper roll as the icon) that shows restrooms in many places. Zoom in to where you are visiting.

The recent recommendation of the app is a brilliant idea.

I just want to say that Slovenia is now my favourite Europe destination. Of all the countries we visited in Europe Slovenia had the nicest people, relaxed atmospheres late at night in Ljubljana, and Lake Bled is something to see!

Lynn, I just downloaded Flush app. What a great idea. I didn’t know about it. But I’ve never had a problem finding a potty, whether traveling independently or on a RS tour.

Note to Hanayclan: I’m a couple years older than you and pee a lot if I drink coffee. I try to limit how much I drink on travel days, hydrate at night and have had no problems on RS tour buses.

You can also utilize Google Maps to search for toilets near where you're standing. But it won't always tell you if a specific public toilet is open or closed (as I found out recently in Seville 😳) Plan B, use Google Maps to locate the nearest McDonald's, Burger King, etc.
