Someone at our hotel in Bohinj said to park in sports center to spend the day. Do you know if this is feasible? We would like to return to Bohinj by late afternoon so we would need parking up to 8 hours.

You can see a photo of the closest one here and the next-closest lot marked on Google Maps has a web site: http://parking-bled.si/. They could possibly be part of the same system.
Rick's guidebook also has some suggestions on p. 594.

If you were planning on leaving the car parked for the whole day, why not just take one of the frequent buses to Bled and avoid the parking fees and long walks from the parking lots to the lake?

Thanks. We wound up driving. I'm glad we stayed in Bohinj over Bled. I enjoyed the ice cream at the Vila bled though
