One week in Slovenia

Hi travel friends,
I am having difficulty building an itinerary in Slovenia for my family of five.

We would be traveling from Rovinj. Areas we are considering...Ljubljana possibly at the end of our trip. We would obviously like to see Bled, Bovinj and some of Triglav Natl park, surrounding towns. We are also considering Logar Valley perhaps at a Tourist Farm. How much time would you dedicate to these areas including Ljubljana? I was thinking 3- Bovinj, 2 Logar Valley/ Logarska Dolina, 2 in Ljubljana.

We would arrive July 3rd. Side note: One of my kids gets car sick after a lot of twists and turns or long drives. As much as I would love to trek across the Vrsic Pass, I am not sure. We have driven the California Coast and all of Colorado at high elevation. How is the drive and drivers in Slovenia?

Thanks for your time.

I will do one week Slovenia this year. Since we will use the car we are somehow going back and forth but Slovenia is so small that this is no issue. We are going like below:

Bovec / Soca Valley - 4 nights
Ljubljana - 1 night
Piran - 3 nights

We are arriving from Germany by car in Bovec on a Saturday and therefore our first stop is the Soca Valley.
From there we are going to Ljubljana first because I want to be there during the week and not on a weekend.
On our way from Ljubljana to Piran we plan a stop at the Postojna Cave.
Piran we put at the end of our trip because we want to relax some days at the sea.
And if there is enough time on our way home we will stop in Bled - just to take a picture of the one famous spot I'm interested in.

We had a wonderful trip to Slovenia last summer. We spent 3 days in the Lake Bohinj area and 2 days in Ljubljana. While we were in The Lake Bohinj area we went up the Vogel cable car, went on two longish hikes to waterfalls, went to Lake Bled and drove the Vrsic Pass. While in Ljubljana we went on a day trip to the Lipica stud farm and the Skocjan Caves. We spent the other day wandering around the city. We went to a thrift store, the outdoor market, had a sweet treat in one of the restaurants on the river and just strolled around. It was a fun, relaxing day.
As far as carsickness... I don't know. There are lots of twists and turns, but we made lots of stops along the way. It was beautiful and we stopped for a couple of "mini hikes", a picnic, a walk across a bridge and dinner at a restaurant. Driving in Slovenia was pretty easy, even on the Vrsic Pass. Let me know if you would like to know any more details.

I think you have the outline for a great visit to Slovenia. I think the Logar Valley doesn't get enough attention from US tourists. It's gorgeous. I spent 25 days in Slovenia in 2019. Obviously, I had more time than you and spent 5 nights in Bohinj, 3 nights in the Logar Valley, and 5 nights in Ljubljana. i think your division of days makes sense.

I don't think the Vršič Pass is that bad. Give the child who gets car sickness some Dramamine, sit her/him in the front seat, and away you go. The road is reasonably wide and in good condition; there is no white knuckle driving involved. You can drive all the way around to Most na Soči to catch the Motorail (car train) -- just drive your car onto the train and ride through tunnels in the mountains instead of driving over the mountains to get back to Bohinj.

There is a very scenic drive from just south of Bled to the Logar Valley via Kokra, Zgornje Jezersko, and a small piece of Austria. The road is not quite as good, is curvy, and is a little narrow in places (but doable). That trip would be more difficult on the child with a tendency toward cor. There is a straighter, wider highway ride through Ljubljana and Kamnik.

On the trip from from the Logar Valley to Ljubljana, consider a stop at Velika Planina. It is an other worldly summer herding community at the top of a mountain.

Ljubljana is great. You'll love it.

We spends 2 weeks in Slovenia last year. Absolutely beautiful ! Ljubljana is a nice town for a daytrip. If you go to Lake Bled there is a nice hike to a beautiful viewpoint (what you see on the picture here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Municipality_of_Bled#/media/File%3ALake_bled_2021.jpg) . We parked our car (paid) near the campsite that’s directly on lake Bled and from there it’s not to far to start the hike (you do need good shoes!). We were in the second half of July and parking your car was a real issue at both Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. At Lake Bohinj we took the cable car up to Vogel. Really worth while. We also visited the Tomlin Gorge and took the car train to get there. If you like hiking: there’s a nice hike to the Mostnica Gorge in Stara Fužina (very close to Lake Bohinj). And we absolutely loved the Peričnik waterfall in Mojstrana. So much to see and do in Slovenia! And I assume you know this but don’t forget your car vignette for the main roads in Slovenia.

I thought it was and from the website looks like they've really poured some money into the renovations. Almost everything you eat or drink during your stay has been grown or raised or made on their farm.
