Driving through Slovenia from Austria to Rovinj, Croatia in July 2017. Will spend one night - which town is best: Bled or Ljubljana or somewhere else?

I would spend a few hours in Bled and then the afternoon and evening in Ljubljana. Bled is lovely but Ljubljana's riverfront and old town have the better ambiance in the evenings.
You will probably end up wishing you had more time for Slovenia, though.

I haven't been to Bled but I absolutely loved Ljubljana. What fantastic architecture!! It's a great town to wander.

Bled is absolutely spectacular, while Ljubljana is a charming city.
One thing is that in summer, it might be easier to find a room for one night in Ljubljana. Bled is more resort-y with fewer lodgings, and may require minimum night stays of three nights or more.
