One Day in Zadar Croatia

Our cruise ship is at the port on October 9th from 1:00 pm-8:00 pm. What are the best highlights? Is there a hop on hop off bus near the docks? The excursions offered by the cruise ship are very expensive.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I think you can see most of the highlights just by walking around. There's the Sea Organ, of course, and, after dark, the Greeting to the Sun. There are walls that go partway around the city, and you can walk these. At one end, there's the Museum of Illusions, which is fun.

There are Roman Ruins, including the ruins of a Roman forum and temple. There is also Five Wells Square and a little hill/park next to it.

There's the Land Gate, with carvings on it, including the symbol of St. Mark (winged lion) from when Zadar belonged to Venice.

There's the sunset, if it's clear, which Alfred Hitchcock proclaimed to be the best in the world.

The old town is small and very walkable.

Zadar is a fun, small, and compact little town. No way would I pay for a tour. Just go wander around. The historic portion of town is very small.
