Need Itinerary Help, Please

I am planning a trip (mainly) to Slovenia in mid-September. We will have 8 nights, and I would love some advice as to the practicality of the following:

Day 1: Arrive Zagreb (cheaper!) midday, rent car, drive to Plitvice Lakes (sleep Plitvice)
Day 2: Tour Plitvice Lakes, drive to Rovinj (sleep Rovinj)
Day 3: Drive to Piran (sleep Piran)
Day 4: Tour Postojna Caves, drive to Bled (sleep Bled)
Day 5 & 6: Bled/Bohinj/Julian Alps Drive
Day 7: Ljubljana
Day 8: Ljubljana
Day 9: Drive to Zagreb, drop car, fly home.

A Bosnian coworker insisted that I stay in Rovinj rather than Piran. Would it be better to stay two nights in Rovinj and skip Piran entirely? Any help, advice, opinions, suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Neither Rovinj nor Piran will keep you busy for longer than a day, to be honest, and it is true that they are quite similar. They are of use as bases to explore the rest of the Istrian peninsula and seeing as you are short on time, it does make sense to just stay in one of them.
