I'm late to planning our trip as we weren't sure we could go. So - we leave 9/5 from the US and eventually land in ZAG on 9/6. Will overnight Zagreb and then pick up a rental car and drive into Slovenia.
Day 1 - Slovenia - Arrive on a Sunday to Ljubljana. How restrictive will that be? I keep reading that stores are closed. But it looks like the castle is open - that is our goal for the day.
Day 2 - day trip. Looks like Skocjan caves are preferred here. Would like to see that along with Predjama castle.
Day 3 - overnight at Vila Planinka - want to visit Velika Planina, Kamnik and open to suggestions for the area in general.
Day 4 - drive to Bled - overnight
Day 5 - Drive to Bohinj - overnight
And then this is where I've left it open.
A friend visited Slovenia in May 2024 and wound up just staying in Ljubljana and doing day trips based on weather. It rained most of the time and this really hampered their touring. But we are hoping to continue on as we love mountains.
We have 4.5 days more at this point.
We want to spend most of the time in Triglavski NP area. So many sights there! We like to hike, but they have to be easy hikes as we are in our 60's.
Also want to fit in that motor train, but have read that they stopped some of the trains? The website shows 5 running during our time.
The very last 1-2 days are earmarked for Trieste/Rovinj before heading back to ZAG to drop off the car late afternoon of the 16th.
I'd appreciate any advice on how to plan the last half of our trip. Thank you!
