Need itinerary guidance please

With four to five more days, I would suggest a circuit first driving from Ljubljana to the Predjama Castle (50 minutes) then the Skocjan Caves. (30 minutes) and then to PIRAN (40 minutes) and overnight in PIRAN—a Venetian town on the coast. From Piran, the Soca Valley ( Tolmin Gorges, Kobarid, Bovec) is just two hours away. Overnight in KOBARID or Bovec for two nights so you can hike the TOLMIN GORGES and see the turquoise and emerald-colored Soca River. You can take the Motorail from the Soca Valley picking up cars at Most na Soci and dropping them off at Bohinj Bistrica near Lake Bohinj. The Motorail service will be heavily reduced from September 8-11 due to repairs.

If you forego the Motorail, then you can drive up to the Vrsic Pass ( 1:15 drive from Kobarid) to Bled (1-hr). RIBCEV LAZ is just 30 minutes from Bled and is INSIDE Triglav National Park on the eastern end of Lake Bohinj. This makes RIBCEV LAZ a great place to stay. Rather than overnighting one night in Bled and one night at Lake Bohinj, I would stop off at Bled to see it on the way to Lake Bohinj and stay two nights in Ribcev Laz. Other villages to stay at include STARA FUZINA and UKANC, which is at the western end of Lake Bohinj.

From Ribcev Laz, KAMNIK is a one-hour drive. Velika Planina is one hour further.

This will put you on a circle loop and give you time on the way back to Ljubljana/Zagreb to stop in the medieval town of SKOFJA LOKA ( 30 minutes from Ljubljana) — a storybook town with its own castle.

Zagreb- 1 night
Ljubljana- 2 nights
Piran-1 or 2 nights
Kobarid- 2 nights
Lake Bohinj- 2 nights
Velika Planina- 1 night

The weather should be glorious with only 1/4 inch of rain now forecast for September 12.

Could I reverse your itinerary a bit?

Ljubjlana (Slovenia day 1)
head to Velika Planina day 2
then stay at Vila Planika (already booked ) day 3
Bled - day 4
then circle backwards from your itinerary ending in Piran. Would that work?

Of course, reversing the circuit works as well.

Even with the one night in Bled, I would stay 2 nights in Ribcev Laz or Ukanc since you have a car. Ukanc has few services, so most visitors there rent cabins with kitchens and stock up in Bohinj Bistrica.

Every one will want to adjust this basic Zagreb/Slovenia circuit to match their own interests.
