We will be traveling to Bled in early Sept of this year. It looks like Bled is 99% booked. Which near by towns would you recommend? We will have a car.

99% booked? On what website? How about booking.com ? What dates?
Bled is a convenient base to explore the area, but it's not the only option (and I didn't find the town itself exactly charming). Radovljica is a nice small town not far away. Even Ljubljana isn't a horrible base for exploring the area around Bled - just a little extra driving, and it's a great place to be at night with lots of dining options.

It wouldn't happen to be between the 6th and the 10th by any chance? The World Rowing Masters Regatta will be held in Bled during that time and major hotels may very well be completely sold out. You should be able to find a vacancy in a farmstay or B&B around Bled, though and probably one that is not on the major booking websites. Another lovely lake nearby is in Bohinj, however if you will be visiting during the event in Bled, consider how it will affect your transportation, too. If you were planning on exploring the local area, then Bohinj is fine. However, if you planned on using Bled as a base to explore Slovenia, then it might be worth considering some other town like Radovljica or even Ljubljana. The road to Bohinj goes through central Bled and I wouldn't want to constantly drive in and out through the heavy traffic that will be surrounding the event.

Yes, we were looking at the 7th to 9th. Thanks for the information about the event. We will reroute our itinerary to be in Bled after the 10th.
