Anyone ever hiked it? We are staying in Bohinj and some here are saying Vintgar Gorge is overrated. Thoughts?
I know nothing about Mostnica, but my experience at Vintgar was not what I would call "hiking". Everyone has to follow the same path, and it's very busy--rather like a roadside attraction in NC or upstate NY. Don't get me wrong, the gorge is very pretty, but you will not be hiking.
I have hiked Mostnica Gorge from start to finish and back again. I have also done Vintgar a few times. Mostnica is divine - best hiking I’ve done in my life. Have blueberry strudel from the place by the waterfall. Completely devoid of tourists. Stay in the Lake Bohinj area. Vintgar is beautiful, but elbow to elbow, flat and short. You can not compare the two. Hike to Slap Savica as well.
Hi. Thanks for the tip. We had the blueberry pie. Delicious. The signage at Mostnica wasn't always the best but it was a beautiful hike and I highly recommend.
re: Mostnica, is it possible to get transportation back to the starting point, or is the only option to walk back?
We had lunch at the same place where the other poster recommended the blueberry pie. There were cars there so you could drive at least that far and then walk. People also ride bikes.
There is a pie place about halfway and a strudel place at the end by the waterfall. This trail is rural and I think it would be impossible to get a ride back. Not sure how you would even do that.
Thanks for the info, Emily.
