Ljubljana to Budapest by train

Hello all,

I'm hearing that some international trains have been cancelled due to the migrant issues and we will be trying to get back to Budapest to catch a flight home. Does anyone know if these trains are still running from Ljubljana to Budapest? I know some go through Zagreb and I've heard the border is shut from Croatia to Budapest. Any suggestions for us to get back to Budapest to catch our flight home?
Thanks so much

Go to www.bahn.com to see routes avoiding Croatia. The direct EC train does cut across the northeast corner of Croatia, but there are several routes going north through Austria to get to Budapest. They require train changes and are probably more expensive, but they are about the same travel time.

Sam is right. Check the routes through Austria, likely with a change in Vienna (or even Graz).

Hi Renee,
I agree to check on routes through Austria. If you are able to go through Croatia, keep in mind that it is a long train ride. We did that same route last summer it and was a long day on the train. I'd bring snacks just to be safe, as our train didn't have a dining car. Not sure if that's the norm though. Have a great trip. We absolutely loved both cities.
