If two married, senior citizen couples (4 adults) wanted to base in Ljubljana could we hire a car & driver for the Vilcic Pass drive with stops for a couple hour long hikes? We can also rent a car and visit easy spots on our own like Bled, Vintgar Gorge, etc. I’m concerned about enjoying Vilsic Pass while driving at the same time. Are there other scenic day trips to castles and caves that we could hire while based in Ljubljana? We like staying in one spot for 4 or 5 nights if possible. So perhaps Ljubljana, Lake Bohinj or Kobarid, then on to Croatia hill towns and Rovinj?

I loved Slovenia when I visited in 2019. You definitely can find someone to drive you through the Vršič Pass with some stops for some one-hour hikes. I think this would probably work out best from a base in/around Bled (including Bohinj). I did this with Top Agenicija, which is based in Bled and owned by the very friendly Elizabeta; I actually did a few tours in the area with her daughters Monica and Sabine. You could also check out the RS-recommended PG Slovenia which lists a tour on their website that I think is exactly what you are looking for. I did a virtual tour of Slovenia during the pandemic with the owners Sašo and Tina and really enjoyed it. I would love to do an "in person" tour with them.
