Koper, Izola or else...

Hi !
We (2 adults and 2 kids) will be in Slovenia in three weeks. We have allowed 3 nights for the coast. We have choose an appartment in Osp because it's between the coast and Potojna caves. But now we realise that theres nothing there !

Now we are looking to fin an appartement somewhere where we can have an evening walk, have a good dinner meal and be not too far from the main road to go elsewhere in the region. We will arrive from Trieste and are going in Istria (Croatia) after those 3 nights..

Thanks !

Definitely Izola, a charming old fishing town. Piran itself is a wonderful place but difficult to use as a base for exploring by car due to its extensive car-free zone. You would have to deal with walking or taking the shuttle to the rather pricey car park on a daily basis. Instead you could stay in one of the newer soulless suburbs and not deal with parking issues but in that case I would rather pick Izola.

Osp (population 186) is otherwise a favourite for rock climbing enthusiasts. Staying at a tourist farm in the area is a great experience with good local seasonal homemade meals.

Interestingly, if you were into it, you’d find that many of the top fine dining establishments in Slovenia are in rural areas, not in cities. However, I agree, it’s better to stay in a town if you want to do after-dinner strolls along the promenade on warm summer nights.
