Kamnik and Velika Planina OR Logarska Dolina for a day trip

Have a few days in Ljubljana before RS tour in mid September and deciding on day trips to take from Ljubljana. For certain I wanted to go to the Skocjan Caves one day . Have one other full day for a day trip and trying to decide between Kamnik / Velika Planina and Logarska. If you've visited both or either can you give me your take? I'm interested in great scenery of course and maybe some short hikes depending on jet lag. Thanks and if you have a tour company or local guide you can recommend? Not renting a car . Trip would be on a Sunday Monday or Tuesday .

Tough choice, but I think I would go for Kamnik and Velika Planina if for no other reason than they are closer. I have visited both. Logarska dolina is gorgeous, but the views from Velika Planina are also quite beautiful. Kamnik is an attractive city. The Church of St Jacob has a really nice chapel created by Plečnik; it was the most important thing for me to see in Kamnik because I am a Plečnik fan. Irena Grmek is an excellent guide for Kamnik and Velika Planina. Knowing I was a Plečnik fan, she scored me that chance to see a quite lovely dining set that Plečnik made for a family in Kamnik when he was doing work there. I thought Irena was great, and others who have used her on my recommendation have liked her quite a bit, too. http://www.irenagrmek.com/home2/turizem/

I should add that the herdsmen and their livestock typically come down some time in September, I believe. So if it is important for you to see them, to peak inside some of their buildings, and to taste their food, you may want to check to see when their season ends this years
