Julian Alps Loop

We're a couple in our late 60s, early 70s, thinking of driving this route counter clockwise from Bled and returning to Bled in September. What is the best route to return to Bled from Kobarid? Suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Hi Carol

We are doing the same route in July and plan to take the the car train from the place called Most na Soči (close to Kobarid) and the train reaches Bohinjska Bistrica, a 30 min drive back to bled

The website is http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/passengers/slovenia and there are multiple times for the train

Hope this helps

Thanks for the link! We're thinking of changing our plans and skipping Kobarid. We're thinking of going only as far as Bovec and returning to Bled via Predel Pass. According to googlemaps the second route is one hour less driving time. We really don't want to drive as far as Most na Soci but will check the link and compare driving times and scenery to decide. We have plenty of time to change our minds again :). Thanks again for your help.

Carol, returning via Predel is a great idea, but if you have the time do try to make it down to Kobarid! There's an interesting WW1 museum there if you or your parnter are interested in history and there's a picturesque waterfall nearby, the Kozjak Fall. Plus if you're up for it, one of the best restaurants in Slovenia is located in the vicinity, Hisa Franko.

Thanks for the suggestion! If we have time we'll go to Kobarid. We've seen some pictures on the internet and it does look beautiful. As usual, we set a certain number of days and no matter where we are or how many days, it seems we always could have used one more day. Thanks again for your help.

A little bit ouf of your route in this response but here it goes. We did Bled and the Julian Alps circuit last September and I fell in love with Slovenia.
Slovenia is a small country with access to Italy and Austria. We rented a car at Europcar and it was a joy. Then we drove from Lujbijana to Bled where we stayed at the Mulej family farm (highly recommended). We visited Vintgar Gorge at the bottom of the Alps and then with the car we did a double take in and out the same way. Socca valley was impressive (where Hemingway drove ambulances during WWI). We plan to go back and do Slovenia and Austria exclusively in the near future. By the way all the advise from Rick, as usual. right on the money! Enjoy!
