Julian Alps in June

We will be in Lake Bled, Slovenia in late June and plan to do a day trip by car in the Julian Alps. We're wondering what clothing and shoes will be appropriate for hiking at that time of year. Trying not to pack so many shoes! Thanks for your advice and experience.

I think it depends entirely on what kinds of trails you are planning on hiking. I walked the Kobarid Historic Trail (not in the Julian Alps exactly, but plenty of mountain-like trails, though at lower altitudes) in the same shoes I brought for everyday walking. If you have serious hiking boots, you'll be less limited on where you can go, but you'll have to carry them around with you. With regular shoes that are comfortable, and have good traction and plenty of support, you won't be too severely limited, and those can double as your city walking shoes. I think that's a smart way to go. Carrying less is always the better option for me.

In the mountains, have a few layers and you'll be fine. I was there in May, and I had a light jacket I wore occasionally in the mountains, but didn't need it much.
