Hi, I’m looking for feedback and recommendations re: a trip this July. My daughter (18) and I are traveling for 6 weeks and will spend about a week in Slovenia.
We love walking tours (self-guided or guided), beautiful scenery, food and food-related tours, day hikes up to 5 miles, and history. We don’t shop. Not planning to do any adventure sports on this trip.
Day 0 - Arrive from Sarajevo (probably going through Zagreb) and pickup rental car; stay Lake Bled area
Day 1 - see Lake Bled, Vintgar Gorge (does it make sense to do these both in a single day?); stay Lake Bled area
Day 2 - Lake Bohinj area, stay Lake Bled area?
Day 3 –Julian Alps drive, stay Kobarid
Day 4 – WWI sites, stay Kobarid
Day 5 – Kozjak Waterfall, drive to Ljubljana and return rental car, stay Ljubljana
Day 6 – Ljubljana, walking tour, get caught up on laundry, etc., stay Ljubljana
Day 7 - Ljubljana continued, stay Ljubljana
Day 8 – depart for Budapest (by bus from Ljubljana)
Although we will have a rental car, we love to stay where we can walk to restaurants, bakeries, etc.
Questions:
• Based on our priorities it looks like it makes more sense to say in Bled than near Lake Bohinj, is that right?
• Does it make sense to get the rental car at Ljubljana rail station or airport?
• I think the order is right given the need to be in Ljubljana at the end of the trip to get a bus to Budapest; however the bus isn’t until 1pm so if a different order makes sense, I’d love to hear it.
• Are there other sites or time allocations you would recommend based on what we like to do? Skip Lake Bohinj for something else?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts!
