Itinerary advice

I've come up with this itinerary for late May 2024. We have probably 3 days that we can add in somewhere - where do you think I have packed in too much? We love nature and animals, with some hiking but nothing major. We will rent a car in Ljubljana. For extra context, I love how this area looks like Glacier National Park and Switzerland, but is much less crowded and expensive. I also love wandering the Cotswolds so wondering if we should allow more time for Velika Planina. I really love photos of the areas where there are green valleys with the snow capped mountains in the background.

Radovljica looks beautiful but I'm guessing doesn't need more than a few hours to explore?

I think we could use extra time between Bled and Kranjska Gora, but I was trying to avoid staying in Bled.

Would Predjama Castle be worth the extra driving time?

Thanks in advance for the help! I haven't booked the flights yet.

Day 1: Venice airport - train to Trieste - relax in Trieste

Day 2: Explore Trieste more before bus to Ljubljana

Day 3: Ljubljana - explore

Day 4 Drive to Velika Planina and Logar Valley

Day 5: Logar Valley to Lake Bled and Kranjska Gora

Day 6: Drive over Vršič Pass and through Soča Valley

Day 7 Step by Kobarid and Most na Spocci ending back in Ljubjlana

Day 8 toward Venice airport for flight next day

We all travel at our own pace, but I travel much more slowly than this itinerary. I don't like one-night stays, and it looks like there are 5 of them in your plan. Here is what I did over 25 days in Slovenia: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/25-days-in-slovenia

It seems like you will have just enough time in the Logar Valley to arrive late and depart early the next morning. That's not really worth it. I would definitely add a day to the Logar Valley if you keep it in your plan. If you add a day, you can use that day to travel part (or all) of the Solčava Panoramic Road: https://www.solcavska-panoramska-cesta.si/en/

I just spent a few hours in Radovljica. More time could be spent there, but a few hours I think is enough for most.

I don't think Predjama Castle is worth it given the amount of time you have.

Thanks for the feedback!!! I think I was overestimating how much time it takes to drive places, forgetting how small the country is. Picking a home base around Bled or Bohinj seems like a better idea.

I did intend to spend most of Day 5 in Logar Valley, heading late to Bled.

I do think we can have 8 - 9 proper days for Slovenia rather than 5, so that will help us slow down the pace and enjoy more.

My two cents is in line with Dave's; I think you're traveling a bit too much and
underestimating how much there is to see in Slovenia, despite its small size.

I think Ljubljana is probably worth 2 days.

Kranjska Gora is not worth stopping in unless you're a skier or want to take
a rest stop before driving the Vrsic Pass.

Not sure what you mean in day 8, and why you're going back to Ljubljana on
day 7. You could go directly to Ljubljana and skip Trieste at the start, giving
yourself an extra day, then head to Trieste at the end of day 7, see Trieste on
day 8, end up near VCE for your flight.

The only issue might be the rental car, but if you picked it up in Trieste and
then returned it in Trieste, you'd avoid the inter-country dropoff charges.
