Ideas for three days after RS Central Europe Tour

Our tour ends at Lake Bled on a Friday morning, and our plane leaves from Ljubljana very early Monday morning.

We would appreciate suggestions for how to divide up those last three days in Slovenia. Should we take the train to Ljubljana on Friday and partake in the Open Kitchen, then spend the weekend in Ljubljana, or would it be better to spendi an extra day of hiking at Lake Bled, and change locations on Saturday? Or are there other options you would recommend for Friday and Saturday that would still insure arrival in Ljubljana on Sunday?

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

The tour seems to spend zero time in Ljubljana, which is a charming city. I'd spend a good bit of the extra time there. I haven't seen much of rural Slovenia, so I can't make a good suggestion for outdoor activity.

Zagreb is an interesting city and just about 2-1/2 hours from Ljubljana by either bus or train.

I agree with acraven to spend time in Ljubljana. It’s a beautiful, manageable city with plenty to do. We took the Best of the Adriatic tour that started there. We arrived a day early and took a tour to the caves of Postonja. In my opinion, Ljubljana is definitely worth a weekend.

I’d take that weekend in Ljubljana anytime. It’s an easy city to enjoy, and has some interesting sights and museums. I’ve been twice and will go back. Also, those tours are pretty fast paced with a lot of hours on the road. I think you’ll be ready to chill out for a couple days.

We did this tour 3 years ago. I will vote with everyone else preceding me. Spend the time in Ljubljana. There isn’t a whole lot going on in Lake Bled. The tour, and time you have on the tour, will highlight Lake Bled quite well. Ljubljana has a wonderful cafe scene, a very fun market, and is very walkable.

I enjoyed staying at Hotel Slon (they have a fantastic breakfast buffet) and it’s centrally located. And yes to Open Kitchen, it’s great!

I’ve stayed Mescanka Apartments twice. It’s gotten pretty pricey, but it’s a very comfortable, quiet place with rain shower and an unbeatable location.

Before leaving for Ljubljana on Friday, if the weather is nice, you could do the easy hike in the morning on the wooden pathways at Vingar Gorge, a short bus rine from Lake Bled and then go to Ljubljana mid-day or early afternoon. Also, if I remember corrfectly, I believe it is more convenient to take a bus directly to Ljubljana from Lake Bled then to get to the nearest train station.
