We prefer hotels described as an art hotel, or with these adjectives: boutique, small, centrally-located, four-star.

In September of 2025, my husband and I spent three nights at the Zlata Ladjica Boutique Hotel in Ljubljana and enjoyed it very much. Our room had a tiny balcony with a view of the river. https://zlataladjica.com

I’ve stayed at the Grand Union, which is very well located, more on the boutique side and describes itself as art nouveau. It is definitely a higher end hotel. I’m not sure I would say it’s small, but I really enjoyed my stay and I am a boutique hotel person.
