Hotel Recommendations in Ljubjana

We need recommendations for a couple days prior to joining our RS Best of the Adriatic Sept. 2018. At this time the RS hotel is not available. Looking for another hotel in old town. Our criteria is ($$$) under E 150, basic or superior room comfortable, air-con, breakfast included, non-smoking.

Has anyone stayed at the Adora Hotel, or another comparable facility?

Thank you!

If no one here is able to help (my hotel wasn't well-located), I've had good luck selecting places on the basis of the reviews I find on booking.com. I admit, though, that I am looking for something pretty basic and do not insist on charm.

I haven't stayed at the Adora, but on a map I see it's not in what I'd consider an ideal location in Ljubljana. It's in the south part of town, though it's a small town and still quite walkable from there. It's probably too far to walk from the train/bus station, if that matters to you. The bus/train station is on the north side.

I usually stay at B&Bs or private rooms in hostels in Ljubljana. Last time, in May, I stayed at a cheap place near the Dragon Bridge. (Private room for only 40 euros/night - not particularly nice but fantastic location.) The time before that, I stayed at the Grand Hotel Union, which is in what I consider the ideal spot in Ljubljana, right in the center of it all. The hotel is usually pretty pricey but sometimes offers last-minute discounts if they aren't booked - which is why I booked a night there. The hotel itself was nice, a bit stuffy perhaps but the view of Ljubljana from the room was breathtaking. But on a map, the Grand Hotel Union is a good reference point.

Consider the Slamic B&B too, another place I've stayed. It's slightly closer than the Adora to the center of town, but it's on the north side and walkable to the train/bus station.

I too would check out Booking.com for lodgings. This is early before next September so I'd probably book something refundable/changeable. Most places on Booking.com are refundable this early.

In May 2015, we stayed at: Old Town Rooms and Apartments
Petkovškovo Nabrežje 27a, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia, Ljubljana, SI

We had an apartment that was as central as it gets with one bedroom, a living room and kitchen about half a block from the Dragon Bridge. It was towards the end of our 3 week trip so we enjoyed having the ability to cook for ourselves. This is different than what you are specifically looking for, but I can recommend this place and location. Don't know the current price, but it was a good deal in 2015. Think I booked thru booking.com

We have stayed in 2 hostels in Ljubljana, Hostel Celica (in the old jail) and another. In both cases, private rooms were available (not in the bunkhouse). We enjoyed staying in these places, since there were many young people, and it was fun. We are also cheap.

I have stayed twice at the Hotel Mrak. The first time was with the RS tour of the Adriatic and the second just recently for several days after completing the RS Eastern Europe tour. I thought it was in a great and very convenient location, the rooms were spotless and very nice, as was the delicious (included) breakfast. They have a lovely patio for afternoon drinks or breakfast, weather permitting. The staff was wonderful; helpful and full of information and recommendations. I would not hesitate to stay with them again.

Perhaps Hotel Cubo, which is 5min walk from the Old Town. Very good hotel, but needs to be booked well in advance.

We stayed in two different places in Ljubljana last September, one before and one after our hiking trip, with REI Adventures. Before, we stayed at Hotel Slon, near the Grand Union mentioned above. I book Hotel Slon well in advance and got a great rate of €133 for a Superior. Breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfast buffets I have seen.

After, we stayed in a lovely apartment at Mescanka,

Very reasonable price for a nice apartment overlooking the cafes along the river, right near the Triple Bridge. No breakfast of course, but that is fine with us. I would highly recommend this one.

Additional vote for Hotel Slamic. We stayed there in October, and we were quite happy. Walk to triple bridge in 10 minutes, nice rooms, staff helpful, great breakfast, and easily inside your price range.

Thanks to all who gave recommendations for accommodations in Ljubjana. So glad we started our search early. We were able to secure one of the last units
at the quaint Mescanka Apt. Convenient location and the price is right. Thank you Lola!

Hi, regarding hotels in Ljubljana:
the hotels in the city center have to be booked in advance. September is a high season (most pleasant weather) and there are some congresses as well. The Cubo hotel is new, great location, a step from walking zone in the city center. Taxi can bring you right to the door. The Adora, Allegro and Angel are in the old town- car free zone (very charming) and you need to walk ca 3 minutes to get to the taxi. Meščanka is already more inside the car free zone- that means you will need to walk to the taxi stand more. There are plenty of Airbnb possibilities and all have great reviews. If you decide to stay in the car free zone, you can use the service of Kavalir- that is a little electric car which can bring you to the closest taxi stand.
Make sure, you will be in the city on Fridays, we have a great Open kitchen food fair (if weather permits), Sundays we have Antiquity fair, Saturdays Art market and Farmers market we have between Monday and Saturday.
Enojoy your stay in our capital!
