My family will be spending the Christmas holidays in Ljubljana and Vienna this year. (We are seven adults.) We'll spend Christmas and a couple days before and after in one of those cities and then several days in the other. Which city would you recommend for Christmas -- Ljubljana or Vienna? And why?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Hotel suggestion for Ljubljana is Hotel Mrak. Excellent location, good service.
Another Suggestion for Ljubljana accommodation. We enjoyed staying in the central location by the river for 2 nights at Meščanka. https://mescanka.si/?lang=sl We then moved to Hotel Mrak for 2 nights prior to our RS Tour. We enjoyed both places but preferred the vibe and location of the river for walking to sites and restaurants. I can’t comment which city I would recommend for Christmas. That said, I can only imagine how magical Ljubljana would be in this fairytale city! I’ve been to both cities and have to say Ljubljana is my favorite city in Europe. Favorite restaurant in Ljubljana- Julija. Edited to add: https://www.trafalgar.com/real-word/visit-christmas-markets-slovenia/
Vienna is the best place for Xmas markets anywhere in Europe. I have been to dozens of Xmas markets - including Strasbourg which is supposedly the best in France, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Prague, Budapest, Toulouse, Paris, London, etc, etc. Vienna is the best ... it has over 20 different Christmas markets and very nice decorations and lighting. I liked it so much, I have been there three times for Xmas.
