Hire a driver-guide / chauffeur in Slovenia?

Hi. I’ll be travelling to Slovenia with my parents in March. Initially, I planned to rent a car and drive for the whole trip. However, I’m doubting the feasibility of my plan for a few reasons:

  • I tend to find driving quite tiring

  • I rarely have family holidays like this and have never played the role of a driver-guide when we had holidays

  • I will also have the responsibility of taking care of other parts of the trip (e.g. meals)

Here’s what the itinerary looks like for now:

  • Day 1: Ljubljana

  • Day 2: Postojna Cave - Piran

  • Day 3: Škocjan Cave

  • Day 4: Soča River - Vršič Pass

  • Day 5: Lake Bled

  • Day 6: Big Pasture Plateau - Logar Valley

  • Day 7: Depart from Ljubljana airport

The current plan is to stay in a different guesthouse/hotel every night (to save time from travelling back to the same place), so I thought renting a car would make things easier as we won’t need to worry about check-in/out time or having to carry out luggage with us.

Do you have any recommendations on where / how I could hire a driver-guide / private chauffeur for the holiday and how much that would cost? (Another idea would be to drive some parts of the trip and follow a few local tours that include transfers so I can rest / enjoy the trip properly sometimes.)

Would also appreciate any other advice, thanks!

Slovenia is one of the most relaxing countries I have ever visited. The people are courteous, traffic is light on highways and distances are short.
I’m planning a trip to Slovenia again for later this year and initially planned to take trains and buses.
Now, I’ve reserved a car for the time we’re there because I know how easy peasy Slovenia is— especially to drive.
For your itinerary, Ljubljana to Postojna Caves is a 45-minute drive. Skocjan Cave*** ( A Must See) is just 25 minutes further from Postojna Caves. So, you can easily do this as a single daytrip from Ljubljana.
Lake Bled is a :45 drive from Ljubljana. The Vrsic Pass is one hour further from Lake Bled.
So, you could easily base yourself in Ljubljana for two nights and see Postojna and Skocjan Caves on the second day.

On day three, pull up stakes from Ljubljana, drive to Lake Bled (45-minutes). I would recommend after seeing Lake Bled, continuing for 30 minutes to Lake Bohinj. Lake Bohinj is within Triglav National Park and the peacefulness of the area combined with the beauty of the turquoise rivers is incredible. Lake Bohinj is very relaxing—- in contrast to Lake Bled which is an over-touristed destination.
From Lake Bohinj you could continue to Tolmin which is on the Soca River in the mountains. Tolmin would be a good substitute for the Vrsic Pass. It is a 90-minute drive from Ribcev Laz/ Lake Bohinj to Tolmin.
The Logar Valley is 1:45 from both Ljubljana or Lake Bled.

You could overnight in the Logar Valley/ Big Pasture Plateau before returning to Ljubljana for your return flight home.
