I would like to do a beautiful hike in the Julina Alps. My original intent was to drive (I'll have a car) to Kranjska Gora and spend half a day hiking and half a day sightseeing. I would love to see vast alpine views and sweeping vistas. I may want to make this simple and have a private guide for the hike or day. Can anyone recomend either a hike and/or a guide? Are there must sees from Kranjska Gora? TIA
Well, Kranjska Gora is a ski resort, as you perhaps know. So it depends on the time of
the year you want to go. In the summer, you might be able to do a lift-assisted hike, but
I suspect you're out of luck in the spring and fall. As for sightseeing, it is again, a ski resort,
so there's not all that much to see there.
But I think you're better off reviewing previous posts in this sub-forum, and perhaps
redirecting your efforts towards a hike of some sort in Triglav.
Mt Triglev south of Kranjska Gora is the highest peak in the Julian Alps. If you do a search on hiking near Mt Triglev you will find lots of information. If hiking and viewpoints are the principal interest start with those sources and pick where to stay based on them.
Hi, Josie. Welcome to the forum.
The hike to Slemenova Spica is close to the highest point on the Vršič Pass and is a very nice hike with sweeping views. Here is a description with photos from an American family that did the hike: https://www.earthtrekkers.com/hiking-julian-alps-slovenia-vrsic-pass-sleme-and-slemenova-spica/
Another option is to catch the Vogel cable car at Lake Bohinj and do a hike in that area. Here is a description of that option with some photos: https://backpackersintheworld.com/vogel-cable-car-slovenia/
I used Elizabeta and her daughters to do some hikes in the Triglav area, including the Slemenova spica hike. I highly recommend them. They can do far more hiking than what is listed on their website: https://topagencija.si/en/guided-tours
