Hikes in the Julian Alps

My husband and I are traveling soon to Slovenia. We are renting a car and staying 3 nights in Lake Bled. The first day will be spent in and around the Lake Bled area. The second day we were planning to take Rick's Julian Alps driving tour, but the more I think about it I'm not sure we want to be driving as much as getting out onto a trail to hike. Now we are considering just doing the drive to a destination for hiking. Looking for suggestions for a moderate level half to full day hike with beautiful views somewhere off of the "Julian Alp drive." Thanks, Kathy

The Mostnica Trail off of Lake Bohinj (so much more pleasant than Lake Bled) is one of the best day hikes I have done in my life. Beautiful river canyons, alpine meadows of your dreams.

Emily,
Thanks for your hike suggestion! We just returned from our trip and had a great time. On our last day we decided to try your recommended Mostnica trail as it was only 30 minutes from Lake Bled and we wanted a low key day before the big travel day home. It was absolutely a perfect 1/3 to 1/2 day hike, easy and well traveled trail with river, waterfall, alpine meadow flowers in bloom, and a nice restaurant serving traditional Slovenian food overlooking the flower filled meadow to boot.. Thank you!! After the hike we dipped our feet in the cool refreshing water of Lake Bohinj. Our other option that day was driving to Logarska Dolina to do the Panoramic Road, but after driving most of the Julian Alps drive with a side hike to the north face of Mt. Triglav (via Mojstrana and the Vrata Gorge) the previous day, we couldn't justify doing a two hour drive just to get to the Logarska Dolina. Maybe next time. I agree, Lake Bled is very touristy, but also beautiful. We stayed at Pletna B and B right near the turn off to Mlino and had a lake view from our balcony. Yes, we were almost on top of the busy road, but loved the view and people watching at the Pletna boat dock with a wonderful restaurant, Sova, right next door.
