We have heard we should vaccinate for hepatitis before traveling to Slovenia in September. We are only there for a couple of days. Thoughts on this? Thank you!
I do not know what may be required now but we spent the first two weeks of this past April with a small group touring Slovenia with a native Slovenian and no comment was made before or at any point in the tour of needing a hepatitis vaccine.
Two years ago when preparing for travel the advice I received was that hepatitis vaccine would be helpful for future travel even though not needed where I was going at the time (Istanbul). If you enjoy traveling lots of places, probably a good choice - my understanding is that once you complete the series you don't need to repeat it in the future.
The vaccine for food-related hepatitis is a good idea even for people who never leave the US
Nothing about Slovenia puts you at particularly higher risk for hepatitis A (food-borne) or hepatitis B (blood and sexual transmission) relative to the rest of Europe or US. It's good to be vaccinated against both, though, for life in the modern world.
