I will be combining 2 Rick Steves tours in May this year. I end the first tour on Sunday, May 26 in Lake Bled and need to get to Ljubljana to begin the Adriatic tour later that day. Is anyone also in the same situation? Any thoughts on how to get to Ljubljana on a Sunday?
Train from Bled Jezero station? Probably too early to book tickets. Also, your guide should be giving suggestions and/or assistance for onward travel at the end of your tour.
There are handy buses many times a day from Bled town to Ljubljana bus / train station; takes a little over an hour. Just check the schedule when you are there.
Last year we were on the RS Tour that ended in Bled on Sunday, staying at Hotel Lovec. There were several couples, including my husband and I, in your situation, hoping to get to Ljubljana the day our tour ended. In fact, one couple was just like you, starting the Adriatic tour later that day.
Our guide Peter showed us where to catch the bus,...just a couple of blocks up the street from our hotel. I can't remember the bus schedule, but my notes say that we left the hotel around 9:30 a.m. to walk to the bus stop. The total fare for both of us was 3.20 euro, which we paid the driver. It was a "local bus" so it made many stops, but we were in Ljubljana by lunch time.
It's been 8-1/2 years since I was in Slovenia. I mostly used buses in and out of Ljubljana, but at that time there always seemed to be a van-size taxi hanging out near the Bled bus station shortly before the bus to Ljubljana was due in. The driver would offer seats to people wanting to get back to Ljubljana a bit faster. The going rate a that time was 7 euros. You're not going to be in a hurry, so simply taking the bus would work fine for you, but I thought I'd mention that a group taxi ride may be a relatively inexpensive option. I'd expect the cost to be higher now, of course.
If you partner up with another couple from the tour, it's possible arranging your own taxi might be cheaper than paying for multiple seats in a shared taxi.
That is great information. Thank you!!
A couple of days before the end of your first tour, your guide will ask everyone their plan following the tour.
Your guide will then suggest the “best” way to your next destination. You will also be able to see who else is heading to Ljubljana.
Back to back RS tours? Let’s all tip our caps. Honestly, I feel like they ought to book you a limo!
As stated above, there’s regular busses to Ljubljana. Not really a bus stop in Bled, but a place where busses stop and people all queue up as if there’s a method. I suspect you might be able to hitch a ride with some other tour folks. Also, RS tours start with a low key intro dinner, and as you’re coming right off another RS tour I’m sure they’d give you a pass if you’re a bit late.
You’re right! They should get me a limo!!. Mostly I was concerned about having to book something in advance, but it doesn’t sound like that will be necessary. Thanks.
