I have noted that flights from the states are very reasonable to LJU instead of an airport near Trieste. Same number of stops. We also end in Trieste, so I can visit Venice after the cruise.
Is my thinking clear? I realize I would likely need to take a Flix Bus or train from LJU to Trieste.
Sounds like a good plan to me, as long as you can figure out the transport to Trieste. Ljubljana is a lovely little city to visit and explore. Fly in 2 days ahead so you have time for that. We loved this little apartment, right off the Riverside promenade but on a very quiet alleyway.
We took Flixbus from Trieste to Ljubljana and was easy. Would expect same on reverse. Use the app to book and track your bus. We loved Ljubljana so definitely worth at least a couple of days.
We used GoOpti from Ljubljana to Trieste and it was fine.
