Ferry service Slovenia to Croatia

We are spending a week in the area. Flying in to Lubjanna and out of Dubrovnik. Car rental fees for dropping of in different countries is crazy. What is the best way to get from the Slovenian coast to Dubrovnik and where to stop along the way? Ferry, train or bus. Or rent a car for each country?

I cant answer your particular question. But I suggest you check the local flag carriers like Air Serbia and Croatian Airlines and then be creative. We were in Dubrovnik about a month ago. Then we drove south to the Bay of Kotor for a few nights, then on to Titograd where we took a Serbian Air flight to Belgrade. The final destination was Budapest but the flight arrived too late for the connection so we spent two nights and went sight seeing. Loved Belgrade and wouldn't have thought to go there but for the connection. The two flights, Titiograd/Belgrade and Belgrade/Budapest cost about $150 combined.

By the way I am glad to have seen Dubrovnik, but Montenegro was the high part of the trip. Spectacular country (and a fraction of the cost of Dubrovnik).

Maybe take a train or bus to Zagreb and pick up a car there for the rest of your week.

I would stop in Plitvice and Split before Dubrovnik if you only have a few days.
