We are renting a car in Venice for a driving trip in Slovenia and Croatia. We will leave Venice first thing in the morning October 1 with Bled as our first destination. We are wondering about driving Route 206 over Vrsic Pass. We will not be doing any hikes - just driving with a few stops suggested by Rick in his self-guided auto tour. Is this doable (and enjoyable) in a day? We are aware of the 50 switchbacks Or would it be better to take the A23 motorway? We will be going to Ljubljana after Bled so don't want to go to Bled that way.
Thanks for your advice!

this was the stop we took on the way from Venice to bled. I HIGHLY recommend it......food available on site and restrooms. http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/825
you will need to purchase a vignette (driving pass) once you get into Slovenia......also, I will say Slovenia is not generous with signage after you get on secondary roads....and they are impossible to read after dark (we learned this the hard way)
I have not driven Route 206, but enjoyed my other driving in Slovenia, and would want to choose the more scenic route if I were making that trip. www.viamichelin.com can help plan driving time.
