Driving Toll Roads in Slovenia

HI - we will be driving a rental car around Slovenia for about a week. I understand there are toll roads which require a vignette, or window sticker. I heard someone purchased this ahead of time...but how do you do that when you don't know your car license plate? I am picking up/dropping off car in Croatia so that is not an option to get it from the car rental agency. Advice on vignettes? Thanks

Getting it ahead of time would be nice. I have only done it once and got it at a gas station right before the border crossing. It wasn’t hard, but it was a bit of a detour since I had to get off the highway.

I also rented a car in Croatia and did the same as TexasTravelMom, buying the vignette at a convenience station just before crossing into Slovenia. I wasn't on a highway, so it was a quick stop and barely a detour.

Thank you, I will buy one just before crossing the border at a gas station. Thanks all!

We were in Slovenia 3 weeks ago. When we tried to purchase a sticker at a gas station in Italy they informed us that the Slovenian vignettes were online/electronic only. Once you’ve rented the car, go online to the previously posted site and purchase there.

From what I’ve read, only that official site sells legitimate online vignettes. Other resellers are not guaranteed to work.

Contact your rental car company. I just rented from Hertz in Ljubljana and the vignette was included with the rental.

Keith, the original poster was renting a car in Croatia (maybe she already has) so getting the vignette from the car company is probably not an option.
