Driving a large vehicle on a self-driving itinerary in Slovenia

I am in initial stages of planning a self-driven 7-9 day road trip through Slovenia, with one option being an itinerary that another poster inquired about from readers and consequently summarized on another thread of this forum (~ Ljubljana, Piran, Kobarid, Bohinj, Bled, and back to Ljubljana; including use of the auto train for part of the itinerary).

Context / reason for this note:

  • I will travel with my immediate family (i.e., myself, wife, and 8- and 6-year old children), and three grand parents. Total 7 seats.
  • Accounting for luggage space needs, presuming we are looking at a 8-9 seater vehicle, perhaps like the VW Caravelle)
  • I am a seasoned US-based passenger vehicle driver, and drive automatic transmission only; and I do not have a Commercial driving license
  • I am presuming I would pick up the rental in Ljubljana the day we are wrapping up in that city, and then drop it back off as soon as we return to Ljubljana
  • Expected travel dates are first / second week of July

Question:

  • Do folks have any concern with navigating this itinerary with this
type of a larger vehicle, and driven by a regular guy with a regular
    passenger vehicle driving experience?

  • Any complication envisioned if
    we use the motor train?

Welcome feedback on the above, as well as any other guidance that you may have in mind

Thank you.

I don't see any big issues...

The road/pass through the Julian Alps has a lot of twists and turns to it. That would be
my major concern.

As for the train, the first website I referenced has a picture of a Mercedes minivan
on the train itself.

Side note: make sure the rental vehicle you get is equipped with a toll vignette, or,
that you remember to purchase one after you get the vehicle if the rental company
doesn't provide one.
