My sister and I are ending our Central Europe tour in Bled and looking for options to get to Vienna. We will be staying in Vienna for two nights prior to flights back to Chicago. It seems hiring a driver is the easiest rather than bus, train and flights. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hi Margaret. Very curious why you say hiring a driver is the easiest. There are trains from lesce-bled station with 1 change in Villach, total time less than 5 hours. Check bahn.de website with a sample date in the near future to see options, then a month or so before the trip, buy tickets either from oebb.com or slovenia rail website.
Thanks Bob. I will check your recommendations. My search was cumbersome and the trip was more than 7 hours with transfers.
I second Bob. We did this tour and took the train to Vienna. It was nice and relaxing. Beautiful scenery along the way. The hotel will line up a cab to get you to the nearby train station.
For the trip home --that's when I would use a cab or car service--back to the airport. Well worth it then!
We will be taking this trip in September. Ive book a ride share with GoOpti. It’s mentioned in Rick Steves book and gets great reviews. We meet up at 9am and get dropped off at our hotel by 2:00. You may want to look into that option.
