We are going to Slovenia for a few days at the end of May. We plan to drive through the Julian Alps via Vrsic Pass. Does it matter which direction we go? Most driving suggestions start in Bled, go up to Kranjska Gora, to Trenta, to Kobarid, etc. Is there any reason you would recommend we not reverse that route? It works better with our accommodations to reverse direction, but I want to be sure there's not a major reason not to do that.
No huge difference. You can stop at various scenic spots going in either direction.
We just did that drive.
I would reverse what Steve has in his book.
We started in Bled, took the car train to Most Na Soci then drove up through Kobarid to Soce. We didn’t go further because the pass was closed.
However that took us a full day as there are many stops and interesting things to see, lots of hikes etc. We stayed in Kobarid overnight and spend the next morning at the museum and the mausoleum.
Steve’s book covers lots of the interesting sights to look at.
I believe once you go through Vrsic pass there are a heap of switchbacks and Im not sure the drive has as many interesting sights/hikes.
