Dinner reservation a must in Slovenia?

Hello,

We are a family of 4 leaving for Slovenia in two weeks.

I need some advice in regards to dinner reservations.

Places we are going to stay are Bled, Logarska Dolina, Kobarid, Piran and Ljubliana. All of our hotels have kitchen, we can cook if we must.

What is it like in terms getting a table for dinner in those area? I understand top rated places will require a reservation, but is it generally OK to start looking for dinner options early, like 5pm and be able to get a table at a restaurant that serves good food? We have a car, want to keep our schedule flexible but also want yummy food, need to find a balance.
Any experience and suggestion are appreciated.
Thank you!

I was in Slovenia in July pre-Covid. At that time, I was able to just walk in to recommended restaturants in Ljubljana and Bled but needed reservations which I didn't have in Piran. You can probably get advice on this from your hotels.

We did not find it necessary to make reservations in advance, except for Georgie Bistro in Ljubljana. (which was fabulous)

Old Cellar Bled recommends reservations, however we found it very disappointing. Average food; terrible service.

I tried twice before Covid to get into Julia in Ljubljana without a reservation for dinner and was denied both times.

Bled might be the only place I'd do reservations, but even those you can just make a few days in advance.

Thank you for sharing your experience, they are reassuring.
I emailed Julia in Ljubljana, no response, guess they are booked four weeks in advance(?)
It seems like restaurants in Slovenia don't use Fork or Opentable much, and from reading RS's book, looks like some tourist places might just be overpriced, not quite like the kind of tourist traps in Rome.

We went to Julija last August without a reservation and were able to get a table. I think we went on the early side, on a week night so that may have helped.

We are back. Wanting to keep our itinerary flexible, we did not make any dinner reservation. Restaurants seem to take booking for 7pm, we showed up between 5-5:30pm for dinner, were able to get table anywhere we went, including Julia, no problem, just had to finish eating by 7pm.
