HI,
My husband and I only have one day to explore the Alps on a Monday in early May. We will be staying in Ljubliana and have a car. We plan to leave early and will likely have dinner on the way back to the city.
Please let us know if this plan sounds reasonable to do in a day and if you have any alternate suggestions. We are more interested in scenery and short hikes than museums, although history is always good to learn! We prefer less touristy restaurants with healthy, non meat options.
Wondering if we want to skip Lake Bled in order to make this work or just stop by there on the the way back to see it, but not take time to walk around the lake.
We had some fun asking Chat GPT to help with these plans! Please make any other suggestions.
7:00 AM - Leave Ljubljana early in the morning and drive towards the north-west
direction to Vršič Pass. The drive will take around 2 hours, passing through beautiful
mountain roads and landscapes.
9:00 AM - Arrive at Vršič Pass and begin the hike to the source of the Soča River. The
trailhead is located just a short walk away from the parking lot at the pass.
1:00 PM - Arrive at Kranjska Gora, a charming Alpine resort town located just a short
drive away from Vršič Pass.
2:00 PM - Enjoy a healthy lunch at Gostilna Pri Martinu, a popular restaurant in
Kranjska Gora that serves traditional Slovenian dishes made from locally sourced
ingredients.
3:00 PM - Take a stroll around Kranjska Gora, explore the town and the nearby
Lake Jasna.
4:00 PM - Rent bikes and cycle along the nearby cycling paths or go for a relaxing walk
(not sure if it is really hilly and therefore may not want to rent bikes!)
(Not sure if we want to spend the few hours in this one area or if there is another spot on the way back to stop at.)
5:00 PM - Depart Kranjska Gora and start your drive back to Ljubljana.
Possibly stop by Lake Bled then?
Eat dinner somewhere in Radovljica as we have heard it is cute and less touristy than Bled.
Thanks for your input!
