Day trip enough?

Hello Helpful Travelers,

We will be in Slovenia for 10 nights. Two nights in Ljubljana after arrival from US, one night in Bohinj followed by three nights in mountain huts. My question is about the last four nights. With the hut to hut mountain hiking, we are moving frequently so I would prefer to have a home base for the end of the trip. We want to see the Soca Valley area. I know it is possible to do that as a day trip from Bohinj — but is that going to be enough time to really enjoy the area? Would we be better to base in Bovec or nearby rather than Bohinj. But that would likely involve a move again for the final night to be closer to the airport.

Opinions on how much time for the Vrsic Pass and Soca Valley? We aren’t big history buffs - more nature oriented.

Thank you!

I spent 5 nights in Bohinj and 3 nights around Kobarid, doing things between Bovec and Tolmin. I think the area is worth more than a day trip, but I also did not do hut-to-hut hiking while in Slovenia.

I first cycled over the Vrsic Pass in 1964 when i was 16.
If you are in Bohinj you can take the train into the Soca valley, some great scenery, I did on a steam hauled special from Nova Gorica to Bled and return in 2014
