Car return LJU or city?

I suspect it doesn't matter all that much from a logistics point of view.

There are car rental places downtown near the train/bus station. Might
be a short walk (for Sixt, there was a 2-3 block walk from the car lot back
to the station). I assume about the same for the airport.

But the airport is pretty far north of the city, so it kind of depends on where
you are coming from and the bus schedule (or more directly, the order in
which the bus goes from downtown <-> airport). Obviously, driving from
the west around Ljubljana to go up to the airport to return the car only to
have the bus come back downtown as part of its routing is of no value,
for example.

This is all of course assuming the rental company has offices in both places,
of course.

But from a perspective of ‘convenience for GoOpti’, go with a downtown location for the car rental drop off. We used GoOpti from Ljubljana to Italy (Bologna specifically) in September 2023, and they staged out of the Ljubljana bus station. We stayed in a hotel some distance from the bus station and GoOpti actually sent a taxi to shuttle us to the bus station to join the other GoOpti passengers at no extra charge.

I had no problem in 2019 picking up my Hertz rental at LJU and dropping it off 4 days later in Ljubljana proper. There was minimal to no difference in cost between the two return sites.
