I will be traveling in Slovenia in early June and I was wondering if anyone has traveled from Bovec to Kranjska Gora via Tarviso Italy.
I have done the Vrsic pass a few times (my wife is not to choked up about this route) so I wanted to go around the mountain pass. My question is what is the road like from Bovec to Tarviso to Kranjska Gora...is it fairly straight forward with few or no switchbacks? is it through the valleys or over the mountains? Any Help/Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The road crosses another mountain pass, Predel/Predil. It's lower than Vrsic and the road is wider, but there are still switchbacks. It's quite scenic, too. There are no valley routes between Kranjska Gora and Bovec, you would have to cross a pass short of going via Cividale del Friuli, Udine and then up the A27 to Tarvisio, which is a very, very long detour, so your best bet is taking the route via Predel Pass.
