Bled or Bohinj 5 days

Hi there

My schedule changed a little bit so I was hoping for some feedback. We will be coming from Prague and spending three nights in Krem, one floating day, three days in the Logar Valley, four days in Ljubljana and then either five days in bled or five days in Bohinj. I don’t really want to split that time up as it would be too much changing I think. We are into hiking, just being, and food. After that, we will spend three days in Salzburg and make our way back to Prague.

My question is, where would you spend those five days?

This is our first time to Slovenia

Thanks

Nicky

I know that you say that you don't want to change, but I am struggling with the idea of 5 days at either place.

Could I ask why? I know we can walk the lake, go up to the gorge and take day trips to either place. We have three weeks in Slovenia so we’re not in any rush. That was my main thinking.

If you are also going other places from these locations then it might make sense. I think your food options might be a bit more varied at Lake Bled.

On my 25 day trip, I spent five nights at Bohinj and found plenty to do in the area. I spent 0 nights at Bled, but drove past it for some activities (after doing a day trip there from Kranj earlier in my trip). I agree that food options will be broader in Bled.

On the food topic, consider a food tour with Lubljanayum while in Ljubljana. One of the best food tours I have done. https://ljubljananjam.si/

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I should’ve been clearer most the time we will be cooking in the condo. We are doing a food tour and we will be at Friday market in Ljubljana. I am should have said be more concerned with hiking and doing day trips. Based on that, would you guys spend five days in which one of those places?

What’s your mode of transportation from Prague? I’m trying to figure out whether to fly in and out of Prague or do multi city and fly into Ljubljana. I’m flying out of Prague. Dave has an incredible travel report from his 25 day trip to Slovenia and it gave me lots of ideas near Bohinj. Also looked at horseback riding near there and eco farm stays.

Either Bled or Bohinj works for hiking and day trips. It comes down to your preference as to where to stay. Do you want to be on a smaller lake with a well-developed tourist infrastructure? Go with Bled. Do you want to be on a larger lake that has a somewhat developed tourist infrastructure on one side and much less infrastructure (and much more nature!) on the other side? Pick Bohinj. Nature is very important to me, so it was an easy choice for me.

Thanks Dave. I do value your knowledge. Mostly we will be out all day and relaxing and cooking at “home” in the evening.

I agree with Dave that Lake Bohinj is a stunning place for an outdoor holiday with hiking, biking. boating, fishing and photography. I stayed in Bohinjska Bistrica and was so glad to have given the crowds at Lake Bled a miss.
