We arrive into LJU next Wed (the 18th) in the afternoon and will pick up a rental car that we will have for the duration of our trip. We will remain in the area until around noon on Sunday (the 22nd) when we will drive south into Croatia for the remainder of our trip. So 3 full days and two partial days. I know there are so many wonderful things to see and experience in Slovenia, but this trip our priority is spending time in the mountains.
Originally we had planned on visiting Bled immediately upon our arrival during that Wed afternoon/evening and then spending the rest of our time in other areas hiking. However, I just discovered that the weekend we are there is Bled Days and the event on Saturday night sounds neat and maybe worth tolerated the crowds? Thoughts? I grabbed a cancellable room in Bled at the Best Western for the Saturday night until I can finalize our itinerary knowing that will probably book up soon.
My next question is in selecting which hikes to do. I've spent quite a bit of time researching, and these all look like good possibilities, so I'm trying to narrow down the list to the time that we have. Ideally we'd hike around 4-6 hours per day. No technical hikes, but preferably high up in the mountains with spectacular views versus in the forests or valleys. Bonus points for any hikes that start higher because we were able to drive up to a higher parking lot or take a ski lift. We are open to staying overnight in a hut, but ONLY if it lends itself to a better hiking experience by giving us access to an area not accessible via a day hike.
My list of possibilities:
- Drive the Vrsic Pass and do Mala Mojstrovka or Slemenova while up there
- Kaminsko Sedlo
- Tosc
- Visevnik
- Mangart
- Vogel and Rodica -Valvasor Hut to Stol
Thoughts on the above options? Ideas for an itinerary to fit in as many of these (or others that I've missed that you'd recommend instead) in our timeframe as possible? I have yet to finalize our lodging arrangements until I've firmed up our hiking plans, but I obviously need to do that ASAP.
Appreciate any thoughts on whether it's worth it to fight the crowds on Saturday night in Bled, on the right hikes for us to take, and a suggested itinerary for our timeframe. Many thanks!
