August Slovenia Trip (2) 8/12-18

Hello Friendly Travelers!

I started this post about a month ago and since then my wife and I have honed down our timetable. Another wrinkle, our niece and nephew are taking an Adriatic cruise and arrive Piran for the day on 8/16.

So many of you were thoughtful and helpful in March with suggestions; I would greatly appreciate your looking at this itinerary and comment where/as you see fit.

Also, if anyone knows of places to stay on those evenings, I would appreciate that too!

Sunday 8/12 arrive Ljubljana (LJ) at 1:30 pm - Bus station. Check in (?). Explore. Eat, drink and sleep in LJ.
Monday 8/13 Day in LJ. At some point go to the castle. Market. Spend evening in LJ.
Tues 8/14. Rent car. Early, drive to Bled via Skofja Loka, Kropa roadway. Is it practical to think I'll reach Bled by 2:00pm? Should I consider driving to Bohinj that same afternoon? Spend evening in Bled
Wed 8/15. Morning Bohinj and Bled, or if I drove to Bohinj yesterday, Bled today. I would like to drive to Piran today along Vrsic Pass (during daylight hours). Sleep in Piran or someplace nearby along the way (suggestions)? I even thought of Trieste, but have scuttled that idea!
Thur 8/16. Meet relatives in Piran at 9:30 am. Enjoy Piran (or outskirts since I have a car). They depart at 4:00pm. Leave Piran and drive towards LJ - Is there anyplace to see or visit along the way - Sleep in LJ/or another place? If we stay in LJ should I return car and take bus tomorrow?
Friday 8/17. Predjam Castle...Cave underneath Castle (worth it?). Postojna Cave (need for two caves?) Return car and sleep in LJ
Sat 8/18. Last morning in Slovenia. 3:00pm flight to States.

Thanks for any and all suggestions/thoughts. Your ideas have helped me greatly. - Don

In Ljubljana a bunch of yrs ago we stayed one nt at Hotel Ermonec, great location right downtown. Supper was street food along the river (right downtown), the grilled sausages, ahh. Look at Hotel Slon, also downtown, & check out where Rick Steves & other tour companies stay.

In Bled, stayed several nts at nice Pension Mayer, with good breakfast (don't remember Ermonec's) & open-air restaurant for dinner.
Fond memories of another dinner at Pizzeria Rustika where the wine was cheaper than bottled water!

I highly recommend staying at the Old Parrish House in Bled. It's directly below the castle in the old part of town (quiet!) that's right on the lake next to the church, which runs it. It is a simple accommodation but newly renovated, extremely clean, very comfortable beds, and an excellent breakfast. Some of the rooms are extremely spacious and have views over the lake. They have a private parking lot right outside that is not accessible to the public which makes it really nice as the town is rather compact and parking can be difficult.
