After reading several online complaints about various car rental companies ( mostly related to excessive charges for minor cosmetic damage) I am seeking some POSITIVE suggestions regarding rental agencies in and around Bled for a 2-3 day rental to cover the Slovenian Alps as well as Skocjan cave and surrounding area. I realize that there would be more options if I rent in Ljubljana but I am trying to avoid the extra 4 hours that such a return trip would involve. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Sorry, we rented in Ljubljana and returned there, then took a train to Rijeka. Our rental was done with Budget - pick up an return at the Grand Hotel Union and we had a very nice car and no issues. Easy walk from our hotel to the Grand Hotel Union and another easy walk on to the train station once we returned the car. We did a big loop visiting Bled, driving over the Vrsic Pass, staying 2 nights near Kobarid and then driving back to Ljubljana the more direct way (not back over the pass.) Since we were starting from Ljubljana, this didn't feel out of the way. Also, we just love Ljubljana and we got to have another nice lunch at our favorite restaurant before we caught our train (backpacks in tow!) How are you getting to Bled?
We rented through Hertz. They actually dropped the car off at our hotel in Lake Bled. (We thought this was too good to be true, but sure enough, the car was dropped off as promised). We did a drive through the Julian Alps and stayed overnight in Kobarid. We returned the car at the Ljubljana airport as it was easier to drop it off there. We didn't have any trouble or weird charges. Good luck!
