Hello All,
We are finishing our first trip to Slovenia with a night in Piran. The next morning, we are will return the rental car in Portoroz near the Kempinski Palace. We then catch a GoOpti shuttle to Trieste. We are thinking about dropping the car the afternoon and explore Piran the rest of the day/evening. Our questions are:
1. Does this sound like a reasonable plan?
2. Is public transportation available to get from Portoroz to Piran and back?
3. Is it walkable with luggage? (We travel light!)
4. Would it be better to spend the night in Portoroz?
5. Do you have a suggestion of places to stay in Piran or Portoroz?

The plan is fine. You have buses or you just walk as is a 2km walk but I personally wouldn't do it with luggage. Portoroz is bigger and more lively ay night but Piran is more gorgeous smaller town.

Thanks for the information. We will probably spend the night in Piran. Do you have suggestions for accommodations?

Hotel Piran is lovely.
