5 Days in Slovenia

Dear Friends,

We are a family of three, with a 5 year old daughter. We plan to visit Slovenia from India for 5 full days in Mid October (excluding the arrival & departure day). Im looking for suggestions for an itinerary. We will be using public transport.

  1. Should i stay in Ljubljana all 5 days and do day trips to Lake Bled, Skofja Loka, Logarska Dolina – Velika Planina, Piran etc.. OR should i split my stay between two locations

  2. We love exploring the town, local culture, cuisine etc.

Thank you...

Hi! With 5 full days, a split stay works best- spend 3 nights in Ljubljana (for Bled, Skofja Loka, city sights) and 2 nights in Piran or Koper to enjoy the coast without long travel days.
Since you'll be using public transport, having constant internet access will help a lot. A Voye Global eSIM for Slovenia is perfect- no SIM card hassle, just scan and connect instantly for maps, tickets, and local tips.

It would help to know your arrival and departure plans. Are you flying directly from and to India? Or are you visiting other countries before and after your five days in Slovenia? It would help to know if you have to be in Ljubljana for a flight out after your five days, or if you are heading elsewhere by bus or train.

I do think staying six nights in Ljubljana is not a good plan. You'll spend too much time on buses. But how to break it up depends on the questions I asked.

Dear Rileybennett2025 and Lane,

Thank you so much for your replies and suggestions.
We are travelling in and out from India...and we arrive and depart from Ljublana.

Day 1 we arrive and Day 7 morning we depart. In between we have 5 full days.

Thanks again

In that case, I think your best option is to figure out where, besides Ljubljana, you are interested in spending a few nights. Maybe Piran, maybe Kobarid? I can't help you with public transporation, as I rented a car when I visited Slovenia. But research options that appeal to you.

I'd go directly to that destination after you arrive and stay there two nights. Then come back to Ljubljana for four nights. You can easily do day trips to Bled, Skofja Loka, and other places close to Ljubljana.

But if it is too complicated to figure out the transportation, then you might be better off staying in Ljubljana all six nights. Some of the day trips would be long days, especially for your daughter.

It really depends on what you think works best for you and where you want to spend your time.
