3 nights in Slovenia Alps/Soca Valley area—where to stay

I am working on our itinerary. We are spending the day/night (Friday) in Ljubljana and then have 4 full days and 3 nights to spend exploring Lake Bled/Soca Valley/Julian Alps/the caves/any other suggestions before driving to Plitvace late Tuesday where we tour on Wednesday.

I am trying to figure out the best route to travel and where to plan to stay. We plan to see Lake Bled early and then move on but aren’t sure how much to pack into the day and how far to go into the Julian Alps. We hope to spend some time rafting/hiking and are wondering if there is place is would be easiest to spend 2 days without backtracking a lot. Thanks in advance for guidance.

Bovec has the most infrastructure for rafting. There is also good hiking there, too (though this is true of nearly all Slovenia).

After visiting Bled and Bohinj you can get to Soca Valley on car train from Bohinjska Bistrica or drive a scenic route over Podbrdo to Most na Soci. Stop in Kobarid is a must and base yourself in Bovec for some rafting, hiking. Also, Mangart Road is a nice drive, a must I say.

Could you share the itinerary that you did or plan on doing? This sounds very similar to what I would like to do with my family. Thanks

Hi,

We stayed a night in Ljubliana and then went VERY early in the moring to Lake Bled to avoid traffic and see the area more peacefully. After a nice visit there and row boat trip to the island, we drover over the pass, leisurely, stopping for short hikes and sights, to Kobarid. We arrived late. The next day we explored Kobarid and the Soca Valley, zip lined, hiked, etc. staying another night there. The next day we took in the Castle and the Caves enroute to Piran. Again it wasn't too much of a strain and short drives. We arrived around 6, enjoyed a swim and the area, and explored the next day. Am really glad we went to Piran. Very lovely. The next day was a 'Stop and explore" kind of day to Prlitvace after wanderin Piran in the morning. One my favorite trips ever!

Bovic would be a good place to stay but I am glad we chose Kobarid--we are Hemmingway fans and it was smaller and felt more intimate. Also less expensive but not as many dining choices, but what we found was fantastic!

Thanks.
We plan on staying 2 nights in Ljublijana
waking up early to drive to lake Bohinj, take the tram up to Vogel than drive the Vrsic pass to Kobarid
where we will stay 3 nights.
We will be driving to Zagreb from Kobarid and hopefully stoping at Skojan caves
